Herpes Dating Website Meet Positives Highlights Study Quantifying the Individual Impact of Herpes
Chicago, Illinois -
The country’s #1 dating website for people with herpes, Meet Positives is drawing attention to the results of a new study that determined the effect of the disease on the lives of Americans who live with it.
Published on February 3, 2023, the study, conducted by the Yale School of Public Health and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), investigated the quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) lost due to genital herpes for residents in the United States for the year 2018. The study estimated the long-term impacts of genital herpes on those who suffer from it and quantified the results in a manner that can be easily understood.
Researchers considered the time lost due to conditions, such as symptomatic herpes outbreaks, psychosocial impacts associated with diagnosis and recurrences, urinary retention caused by sacral radiculitis, aseptic meningitis, Mollaret's meningitis, and neonatal herpes, by Americans aged 18 to 49 years who are living with HSV-1 or HSV-2. The study referenced and incorporated the results of 74 prior publications to arrive at its findings.
The study concluded, “0.05-lifetime QALYs were lost per incident genital herpes infection acquired in 2018, equivalent to losing 0.05 years or about 18 days of life for one person with perfect health. The average number of QALYs lost per infection due to genital HSV-1 and HSV-2 was 0.01 and 0.05, respectively. The burden of genital HSV-1 is higher among women, while the burden of HSV-2 is higher among men.”
Meet Positives representative Michael Task commented on the findings of the Yale study by saying, “Though the results don’t surprise us, we are glad that the impact of the disease has been quantified in a way that most people can relate to. We are especially thankful to the researchers for considering the “psychosocial impacts associated with diagnosis and recurrences” in their calculations. We have always maintained that herpes is more of a social stigma than a physical ailment. The way people judge those unfortunate to show symptoms is more traumatizing than any physiological effect that the virus can have on your body. Fighting this perception was the main reason we started Meet Positives and it is what keeps us going every day. We hope the results of the study compel society to spare a thought for those who are forced into isolation because of the condition.”
Along with being the largest herpes dating platform, Meet Positives is also the fastest-growing STD community in the country. At the center of the company’s mission is to empower its members to never have “The Talk” again, the awkward conversation that everyone with a positive status is aware of. The stigma surrounding herpes and other STDs often forces individuals to remain secretive about their condition and to break the news only after a base level of trust has been established.
To enable its members to find others like them who understand their plight, Meet Positives uses a highly accurate matchmaking algorithm that recommends others based on the same condition(s), distance, and other personal saved criteria. The company, which was voted the #1 Trusted STD Dating Site based on a 2019 survey of over 2000 positive singles in the US, has over 20 years of matchmaking experience to draw from. Registered members can also share their stories and learn more about what life is like for other positive individuals who are in the same boat.
The Meet Positives app, currently available for Android and coming soon to the iOS App store, allows users to match with members by HSV, Herpes, HIV, HPV, STD, or STI, in their local area or the area they select. The platform has a diverse gender ratio of nearly 57% male and 43% female with the option to filter other profiles based on gender and intent including love, romance, fun, marriage, or friendship.
Readers are urged to sign up for the Meet Positives herpes dating platform by visiting its website or downloading the app from the Play Store.
