Insurance Covered CGM Helps Diabetes Patients Get a Continuous Glucose Monitor Through Insurance
Insurance Covered CGM, a MedSource LLC company, is happy to announce that they are committed to helping people to qualify for a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) through insurance. They currently offer the two best CGM products available in the market, which are: Freestyle Libre 2 and Dexcom 6. Once customers have submitted their Qualify Through Insurance form, which can be accessed on their website, they will contact the customer’s insurance firm to verify coverage and submit all necessary paperwork on their behalf. Insurance Covered CGM can be contacted using an online form on their website or they can be contacted through a toll free phone.
A CGM is a compact medical system that is designed to continuously monitor a patient’s glucose levels in more or less real time. Typically, it provides readings every five minutes. To use a CGM, a patient will need to insert a small sensor onto the abdomen or arm with a tiny plastic tube, which is called a cannula, penetrating the top layer of the skin. Interstitial fluid flows through the cannula and it is this liquid that is tested by the CGM to provide the glucose readings throughout the day and night. It should be noted that the sensors will need to be replaced every seven to 14 days.
The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor has been approved by the FDA for wearing on the upper arm, while the Dexcom G6 sensor has been approved for wearing on the abdomen, upper arm, or upper buttocks. CGMs do not require finger sticks, but they do need the receiver/reader or a smart device close by. CGMs automatically collect and share glucose data and are able to predict dangerous highs and lows before they occur to help patients stay within their target range.
Those who should use a CGM include: people with type 1 diabetes taking insulin via injections or pumps; people with type 2 diabetes taking insulin via injections or pumps and/or have frequent episodes of very low glucose; people who have trouble recognizing the symptoms of low glucose (hypoglycemia unawareness); people who often have wide glucose fluctuations; and people who would like to have more information or improve their daily glucose numbers.
The CGM can help the patient do a number of things, such as: recognize glucose trends to better manage eating, exercise and medication; track glucose levels while sleeping; understand the importance of taking medication and the timing of medication; make it easier to manage Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes; alert the patient on highs and lows to enable the patient to make change quickly and avoid a more serious problem.
Currently, out of pocket costs for a CGM and sensors are approximately $3,800 each year without insurance. But Insurance Covered CGM is focused on making the CGM more affordable for the patient by having it covered by insurance. It should be noted that the both the FreeStyle Libre 2 and Dexcom G6 are covered by Medicare and TRICARE for those who qualify with a prescription.
Both CGMs that they offer will need a prescription and the patient will also need to download an app for use in a compatible smart device or a they will need a reader close by to use the CGM. Meanwhile, they will also automatically ship the customer’s supplies and replacement sensors on a regular basis so that they don’t need to reorder. These replacement sensors and supplies are essential to make sure that the CGM works effectively.
